10/5/2026 - 5 in 5 reflection

୭ ˚. ᵎᵎ What did it feel like to do so many small experiments over 5 days?

While I was initially concerned about the scope of this assignment, I am satisfied with what I was able to create. With these experiments, I was able to dedicate time to creating pieces in areas I have little experience in, like making necklaces and mooncakes. At the end of the five days, I came to realize how I generally enjoy creating in the digital space more than the physical, but prefer the tactility of physical objects. This is something I am still thinking about as I develop my final project.

It was also surprising how people reacted positively to some projects I put less effort in, for example, the food website I made for the first day. Sometimes I am fixated on the idea of originality that I forget how even modest ideas, like a food recording website, can be well received exactly because of its simplicity.

₊˚⊹♡ Where did you get stuck?

For me, hardest part of the project was the ideation. As we were expected to create a something starting on the day this project was assigned, I wanted to come up with a list of ideas I can pursue and prepare for given the busy weekend ahead. At the end, I was able to come up with three ideas that felt worth pursuing in day 1. The technique worked well, but I do wish that I had more time to think about projects in other areas too.

୭ ˚. ᵎᵎ What would you love to do again? What would you hate to do again?

The format of this assignment as a physical, public-facing project was completely new to me. Most of my previous projects were self-contained (like my undergrad campus) or for a digital audience. Surprisingly, I found it very satisfying to watch strangers interact with the mirror we put up. This kind of feedback is very new to me and it was fun to see how something we designed became a short part of someone else’s day. What I found the most challenging about this project was the limitation on written language and verbal instructions. While it was a good exercise in creating clear, intuitive designs, it did limit a lot of the ideas we had.

₊˚⊹♡ Do you want to incorporate any aspects of this project in a future project?

What I thought was interesting about the sticky notes was how they added an asynchronous element to our project. People were able to be in dialogue with each other by producing and reading each other’s notes. While it was not direct interaction, it created a continuous proof of existence. This form of asynchronous conversation is something I want to incorporate in a future project, especially between strangers.
